January reads: romance, drama and suspense!
O
January was a time when I was able to vary my literary genres.
I went through romance by Lucinda Riley, suspense by newcomer J. A. Finn
and ended with the characteristic drama of María Duenas. Want to know
a little more about my reads? I'll tell you more about them below,
but there are reviews of all of them on the site and on the channel, ok?! Let's go!
The Moon Sister - Lucinda Riley
A he first read of 2019 was The Moon Sister, the fifth book in the Seven Sisters series. Seven Sisters series. As I love this series and love how Lucinda builds the plot and the characters, I read this book very quickly. characters, I read this book very quickly. Involving, captivating, this novel tells the story of the fifth adopted sister of Pa Salt, a mysterious man who adopted six daughters and named them after the stars of the constellation The Seven Sisters. It's not yet known why he didn't adopt the seventh sister and whether she really exists. this is one of the great mysteries of the series.
The Woman in the Window - A. J. Finn
My second read of the year and of January was a psychological thriller, the debut novel by A. J. Finn, a pseudonym for the American Dan Mallody. A few weeks ago there was a controversy about his name. But I've already reviewed it on my channel and commented on it.
Well, the book is undoubtedly a pleasant surprise. Although it starts a little slowly, but intentionally so, the plot revolves around a main character who has suffered a sudden separation from her husband and daughter, which causes her to develop some psychological disorders, including agoraphobia. Her routine consists of waking up, drinking, watching old movies and snooping around the neighborhood through a camera in the window. The plot develops around this and leaves you open-mouthed.
The Captain's Daughters - María Duenas
A January's third reading was by a writer I really like - María Doenas - whom I met with her book Time Between the Seams. With the same style of narrative style and similar themes, The Captain's Daughters tells the story of of four women - mother and daughters - who are forced to support themselves in a completely different country completely different from their homeland - they are Spanish and went to the United States to the United States in pursuit of the patriarch of the family, who had gone in search of the American dream.
However, tragedy struck the family. Emilio died after an accident on a ship. The four women find themselves alone, in another country, a language they didn't speak, another culture, and many mysterious and evil people in their path. What now? How would they survive? The plot answers this question and shows the many challenges that lie ahead.
