March - from classic to contemporary
March was a month of that marked the era in which they were written. I reread a classic of Brazilian literature, got to know two other classics of world literature and ended on a high note with the beautiful writing of a Nigerian writer who has my heart. Shall we read? Come with me!
Dom Casmurro - Machado de Assis
What can I say about this classic of Brazilian literature by Machado de Assis? It wouldn't be enough just to say that I had a new vision of the narrative. In fact, I rediscovered the story of Bentinho and Capitu in a different light. I got to know the real "hangover look", which had nothing to do with the "oblique gypsy in disguise". I got to know Bentinho's guilt and remorse, as he was little more than a victim than a husband in love and betrayed. If you've read this story a long time ago, I invite you to read it again. So, are you up for the challenge? Find out more about my vision of this beautiful novel by Machado de Assis.

O catcher in the rye - J. D. Salinger
Another classic of world literature, so controversial and so polemical, won me over from start to finish. Holden Caulfield's young and rebellious language didn't fool me. A rebellious teenager going through traumas that left permanent scars. A depressed 16-year-old who was finding it difficult to deal with death and also to accept that he needed to grow up. Are you interested in finding out more about this story, which deals with such relevant themes and which, despite its youthful language, is anything but light-hearted? Then watch the video review!

A The Death of Ivan Ilyich - Leon Tolstoy
Another classic of literature, this time Russian, is the third read of the month: The Death of Ivan Ilyich, by Leon Tostoi. What can I say about this book which, despite its short length of around 70 pages, is not an easy or quick read. It's difficult to digest, simply because we still don't know how to deal with death. Seeing the agonizing moments of the protagonist, who had the perception of how the people around him were dealing with the possibility of his soon death, in addition to all the symptoms felt, brought a reflection on the brevity of life and how death can be preceded by a banal moment. A Tolstoy classic that should not be missed.
A review will be aired on March 31st. Get ready to watch it!

Hibiscus Purple - Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
Nigerian Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie demonstrated her talent in her first book, Hibisco Roxo, published in 2003. Exposing some of the darker facets of religious religious fanaticism in a context of political confrontation in Nigeria, the book shows how the influence of white colonization can be extremely damaging to a family of a Nigerian capitalist who has chosen to reject local customs, even giving up his family. The accounts are impressive. Abusive abusive control and daily violence against his own family.
Review will be aired on April 7th - plan to watch it!
